All I know is just what I read in the newspaper. – Will Rogers
A few months ago, a new platform for sharing information on twitter and facebook came out in the form of paper.li.
Almost over night it seemed like everyone had their own newspaper. I looked at a couple of them but wasn’t terribly impressed.
But then my friend Ron Hudson wrote a blog called 50 Social Media Phenoms. This list includes some of the usual, big name, suspects but it also includes people like…me!
People that Ron has actually developed relationships with and considers friends appear on this list. I was completely humbled to be included with such an amazing group of people, many of whom I’ve also developed friendships with via various social media avenues.
But then, Mr. Hudson took his list one step further and created a paper.li called The SocialMediaPhenoms Daily.
This, I read.
Not only did Ron collect a nice list of knowledgeable folks, he combined them into a really great resource. There hasn’t been an issue yet that I have not clicked in to at least two of the articles it contains which is about my average for a print newspaper like The Tulsa World.
The information I find in Ron’s paper, however, is more up to the minute and useful than any I would find in a print newspaper.
I encourage you to give The SocialMediaPhenoms Daily a look. There’s a lot of terrific information to be had and you don’t even have to look hard to find it!

Lauri,
As you know from my comment to you on Facebook, I was humbled and grateful to find out you wrote this post. It’s an honor and a privilege to have been able to establish friendships with most of the people on the Social Media Phenoms list, which of course, includes you. paper.li is a wonderful resource for anyone to continually highlight people they’ve met during their journey in the social media realm.
Over the past three years, I’ve been quite fortunate to meet lots of people but the relationships that blossomed into friendships did so, after interacting in person or on the phone. Therefore, I definitely suggest scheduling offline meetings and/or picking up the phone to call your social media contacts. Social media activity is a great way to discover, connect, and engage many people – but personal, one-on-one contact will quickly deepen your connection and engagement.
That’s my two cents on social media for today! =)
Again, thanks so much for writing this post about The Social Media Phenoms List and me! Hope to talk to you or see you soon. Have an incredible weekend!
Warmly,
Ron

My first experience with a paper.li newspaper was when I read about an edition by someone I had respected for many years in the technical world. I have never met the person, but had read their blog and followed their technical advice since 2001.
I started reading the “paper” with great interest. I found it great to be able to get an insight into the things that interested this person.
One of the “articles” was something to do with Harry Potter, so I clicked on the heading, and started reading. It was a story written by someone about Harry Potter. Harry Potter was tied up in a castle. Draco was torturing him. As the story went on I quickly realised that the story was a porn story.
Now, the person whose “paper” this was claimed that they had nothing to do with the story, and I believe them. However, the fact this story had “featured” on a “paper” with his name still created, in my mind, an association, and I have lost a bit of respect for this person.
That’s the thing I don’t like about “paper.li”
